Volunteers Needed to Staff Mile 19 Water Station at NYC Marathon The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) is recruiting volunteers to staff its official Mile 19 water stop at the New York City Marathon. Alexandria, VA РJune 27 РThis year, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) has received the opportunity to staff the official water stop at Mile 19 of the New York City Marathon. The Meso Foundation is now recruiting volunteers interested in working on marathon day, on Sunday, November 2, between the hours of 7:30 AM ̢?? 3:30 PM. Due to planning and security concerns, all interested volunteers must register online by July 31, 2014. No walk-ins are allowed. The New York City Marathon is an event featuring over 50,000 runners and over 2 million spectators. The registration process is outlined on Meso Foundation̢??s blog. Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor of the lining of the lung, abdomen, or heart known to be caused by exposure to asbestos. Medical experts consider it one of the most aggressive and deadly of all cancers. An estimated one-third of those who develop mesothelioma were exposed while serving in the Navy or working in shipyards.
